Valerian had been born into a typical suburban family. His parents did their best to provide him with a good life as well as help him grow into a good person. There are those who might negatively judge their skills as parents as he was married with two children by the time, he was seventeen. Valerian didn't care what others thought. He loved his wife and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Those who knew them often commented how sweet they were together and how they were clearly meant to be together. Everything changed two years after they were married. Valerian and his wife had decided to do some shopping at the local mall when they ran into Valerian's old girlfriend. He had dated her just before he started dating his wife. Their break-up had been rough, but it was clear that she was still pinning over him. When they finally went their separate ways, his wife teased him about his exes obvious feeling for him--even jokingly suggesting that the woman would be waiting for him at home. She had not been.
A few days later, it became clear that his ex-girlfriend hadn't forgotten about their encounter. He had just gotten home from work and his wife had taken the twins out to run some errands when he heard a knock on the door. There was a strange woman standing at his door. She asked if she could come in as she wished to talk to him about her niece. He agreed to the request and allowed her into his home. He offered her a drink before settling down within the living room with her. The woman asked him why he hated her niece, and he let her know that he didn't. He told the woman that her niece wanted something from him that he was incapable of giving. He was more than happy to be her friend, but she wanted more than that. They began to talk about his family and his plan for the future. Then the woman started to tell Valerian who he should hang with, forbidding him from hanging with those whom she declared was a bad influence. Valerian became outraged and told the woman to leave his house. Only his wife could forbid him from talking to anyone, and even then, it was more a request than a demand. Much to his amazement the woman left without a fight.
Ten minutes later, he heard another knock on the door. He thought it was the strange woman coming back, but a different woman stood there when he opened the door. This woman told him that she was related to the woman who had just left, and not only his life but the lives of his family was in danger. She asked if she could come in as she didn't want to risk anyone over hearing what she was about to tell him. For the second time that day, he allowed a stranger into his home. Like with the previous woman, he offered this one a drink before settling down within the living rom. The woman accepted a glass of water before going on to explain the truth of the world--the supernatural existed and she and the woman who had just left were one of these supernatural beings. The other woman had not been his ex-girlfriend's aunt but was the twin of the one who now sat before him. Through, it was his ex that brought the other woman here in the first place. She had come under his exes' request to bespell him to fall in love with his ex-girlfriend and convince him that he couldn't function without her, but he had been immune the attempts.

Sometime during their encounter, her sister decided that she wanted him. It might have been the very moment he opened the door, or any moment between then and when he told her to leave. She will claim to love him, but she was incapable of such things. It was likely his immunity was what drew her towards him, but one thing was for certain she wanted him and would stop at nothing to get him--even killing his entire family. The woman before him told him she had not just come to warn him about her sister but to offer him a place within her organization of supernatural investigators. The fact he was immune to her sister's powers likely meant that he was immune to other supernatural abilities as well, and that hidden within his genetic make-up was other abilities that could help defend humans against those things that went bump in the night. She could show him how to harness these abilities, and at the same time give him the skills he will need to protect his family against her sister.
Agreeing to come with her would mean abandoning his family as her sister would attempt to use them as a means to get him to fall into place. He inquired if she thought her sister was beyond redemption why she didn't just kill her sister herself and the sad smile she gave him was all the answer he needed. He wanted to denounce the woman's words as nothing more than pure fabrication but try as he might he was unable to dismiss the undeniable truth that her words held. He knew this meant he must accept the female's offer, but that was easier said than done. He decided the best way to do this was to leave without saying goodbye. He knew that if he talked to his wife about what had transpired that she would try to talk him out of it or convince him they could face it together. There was, also, the fact the more knowledge she had about what was going on the more danger she and the twins were in. He didn't even leave a note. Just left with the hope that when he returned that he would be forgiven.

This tattoo would not only help with the use of his current abilities but call forth any other abilities that were hiding just beneath the surface. The tattoo, also, served as an identity mark for its member. Once he received his tattoo, he began his training, and it was here that he met a fallen angel by the name of Aiveri. It was here that he learned the tattoo being a requirement for all members were Aiveri's doing as it was originally only something that the human members had to receive, but after spending thirty minutes going on about the unfairness of only human members being required to get tattoos that their fearless leader declared it was a requirement for all members.
